Advocacy for older people's rights

At Kwa Wazee, we believe that older people deserve to live with dignity, respect, and security. Too often, however, they are marginalized, excluded from decision-making, and denied access to essential services. Many older people in rural areas face poverty, limited healthcare, and a lack of legal protection, leaving them vulnerable to neglect and abuse. Our advocacy work seeks to change this reality by amplifying their voices and ensuring their rights are recognised and protected.

We actively promote access to social protection, healthcare, and legal aid, enabling older individuals to claim the support and services they are entitled to. This includes advocating for pensions, accessible medical care, and legal assistance in cases of land disputes, inheritance rights, or abuse.

Kwa Wazee also supports the formation of older people’s forums, safe spaces where older men and women can come together, share experiences, and collectively advocate for their needs. These forums strengthen solidarity while building platforms for older people to influence their communities.

Furthermore, we engage in policy advocacy aimed at influencing local and national decision-makers to adopt and implement laws that safeguard the rights of older people, especially those in rural areas.
